EASTON, Pa. – ECU gave up the first four goals, but managed to pull within a goal at 9-8 before suffering an 11-9 loss to Lafayette at Fisher Stadium Sunday. The Pirates outscored the Leopards 7-5 after halftime but were unable to overcome the early deficit.

GAME FACTS

Freshman Lily Avazis scored a season-high five goals on six shot attempts. She also collected two ground balls and had a caused turnover.
Mackell Schultes, Nicole LeGar, Liz Blumthal and Sam Caputo scored one goal each,
Abby Smith and Christina White split time in goal with each playing 30 minutes and each recording six saves.
Blumthal and Ally Stanton led ECU with two draw controls apiece.
Emma Novick led Lafayette with five goals.
The Pirates didn't take a free position shot for the first time this season.
Lafayette outshot ECU 35-30 with both teams taking 16 second half shot attempts.

"I thought it took us a while to settle in to the game today, and make adjustments on the draw, but when we did we really connected as a whole team. It was great to see our team battle back after an early deficit to stay within striking distance. We had some tremendous individual efforts out on the field, but for me this was our first-best end to end team effort. I think this game will give us confidence moving forward and keep us hungry to keep competing." – ECU Head Coach Amanda Barnes

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lafayette scored four goals in the game's first eight minutes to take a 4-0 lead.
Legar and Avazis scored the next two goals before the Leopards answered with two goals for a 6-2 halftime lead.
ECU scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull within two goals, 7-5, only to have Lafayette answer with two goals of their own.
Schultes brought ECU with three goals at 9-6, then Avazis scored two goals to make it 9-8 with 4:59 remaining.
Hannah Davey put Lafayette back up by two goals 35 seconds later, then Jane Kirby made it a three-goal lead with 57 seconds to play.
Avazis added the final goal of the game with 16 seconds remaining.

The Pirates return to action Wednesday, March 7, against Temple in Philadelphia. The first draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
