
Santos And Lajoie Named February Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore Gustavo Santos and senior Julie Lajoie of the swimming and diving program have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding February athletically.

Santos turned in a pair of NCAA "B" cuts in the 100 & 200 butterfly at the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships and was the highest point scorer for the men's team with 53. He garnered six all-conference designations, won four gold medals, captured one silver medal and snagged one bronze medal at the conference championship meet. Santos also set the varsity record in the 100 fly three times in a span of 10 days.

Lajoie achieved 3 NCAA "B" cuts for the NCAA Championships during the month and earned three all-conference designations at the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. She set a new varsity record in the 200 IM, earned the gold medal in the 200 butterfly - ranking second in ECU history in the event. Lajoie was also part of the silver medal 800 freestyle relay and represented the highest women's scorer for ECU at the championship meet with 51 points.

The pair has completed 25.5 hours of community service thus far this academic year.
