PALM COAST, Fla. – No. 47 ECU carded an opening round score of 296 (5-over par) at the 2018 American Women's Golf Championships and is currently tied for third place with Memphis. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club.

Freshman Kathryn Carson fired an opening round of 69 (3-under) and currently leads the event after 18 holes holding a one-stroke lead over Houston's Leonie Harm and Wichita State's Taryn Torgerson. Sophomore Dorthea Forbrigd is tied for 15th after her round of 74 (2-over), followed by junior Carley Cox who is tied for 20th at 4-over (76). Rounding out the Pirates roster are sophomore Catherine Ashworth (t26/5-over) and senior Lisa Pettersson (t30/6-over).

No. 23 Houston leads the team portion of the event after carding a score of 291 (3-over) and has a two-shot lead over UCF (293). Memphis and ECU are tied for third at 296 (8-over) and Wichita State is six-strokes back at 302 (14-over).
The second round will begin at 8 a.m. (ET) on Monday, April 16.
