Keith Dawley is in his fifth season as an assistant coach at East Carolina University. He joined the Pirate coaching staff after receiving his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina following the 2009 spring semester.
He spent his first season at ECU assisting with the butterfly/IM and backstroke/breaststroke groups then worked with a developmental group the following season.
During his third season as a member of the coaching staff, Dawley worked primarily with the breaststroke swimmers, which set nine school records in 2012 and captured one gold medal at the C-USA Invitational. He continued his work with the group last season.
Unable to compete as a senior due to a back injury, Dawley served as a student assistant coach and worked primarily with middle distance swimmers. As a junior he competed in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly at the SEC Championships. Dawley transferred to South Carolina at then end of the 2006-07 season from Indiana, where he was a member of the Big Ten champions as a freshman.
A native of Allen, Texas, Dawley was a three-time All-America performer and a four-year all-state and all-regional selection. He was also a Junior National Finalist in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly.
