COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their dual meet seasons Saturday with the ladies posting a win over Vanderbilt, while both squads fell to South Carolina.

The women's squad defeated the Commodores, 214-114 and fell to the Gamecocks 180.5-140.5 to conclude the season with an 8-3 record. The men's team finished the year at 4-4 with a 186-152 loss to South Carolina.

Senior Natalia Favoreto recorded a pair of first-place finishes and two second-places finishes to lead the ECU women. Favoreto touched first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.17) and 100-yard butterfly (58.27), whe she missed a third first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke by 0.15 (1:05.07). She also earned second-place in the 100-yard freestyle (52.81).

Holly Berenotto and Lauren Gray also recorded first-place finishes for the Pirates. Berenotto captured the gold in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.22) as did Gray in the 400-yard IM (4:33.04). The ladies finished with 11 total individual medal finishes.

On the men's side, freshman Nikola Simic won a pair of individual events touching first in the 100-yard freestyle (45.66) and 200-yard freestyle (1:40.94). He also nearly captured a third gold medal finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.56), but touched 0.08 behind the winner. Simic also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.29).

After posting second-place finishes in the 200-yard IM (24.70) and 100-yard breaststroke (57.56), freshman Rokas Cepulis broke through with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.63).

 

 

The Pirates will return to action on Feb. 15 on the first day of the 2012 Conference USA Championships, being held on the campus of the University of Houston.
