Pirates End Dual Meet Season With Sweep Of Charleston

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina swimming & diving teams completed their dual meet seasons Saturday with a pair of victories over visiting College of Charleston at Minges Natatorium.
East Carolina's women earned a 193-101 win to finish the year with a 9-1 record, and the men posted a 176-117 win to complete the season at 6-2.
ECU won a total of 30 events on the day, including 16 of 17 women's events and 14 of 17 on the men's side. The ladies claimed the top three spots in five events: 1000 free, 200 free, 200 fly, 200 back and 500 free.
Seniors Holly Berenotto and Anna Holland Lawrence along with freshman Anastasia Amoiroglou led the way for the ECU women, each earning a pair of victories. Berenotto touched first in the 100 and 200 free. Lawrence triumphed in the 100 and 200 breast, while Amoiroglou captured first-place in the 50 free and 100 fly.
On the men's side, Michael Dugan put together an unbeaten day with wins in the 1000 freestyle and 100 free. Dugan finished just 0.08 ahead of teammate Nikola Simic, who won the 50 free by 0.08 himself.
Andre Smedstad and Macon Crowder finished one and two in the 100 back as did Julien Dodu and Hyatt Gaston in the 500 free.
The ECU divers also produced four victories. Senior Tyler Dunsmore swept the men's diving events, posting a pair of NCAA Zone Championship qualifying scores. Senior Kyle Comiskey placed second on the 1-meter board, recording his top score of the season.
Senior Kirstie Russell also swept both women's events, qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships in the 1 and 3-meter competitions.
The Pirates return to action Feb. 20 on day one of the 2013 Conference USA Women's Championships and Men's Invitational.
