HOUSTON, Texas --- East Carolina set four varsity records on day one of the 2013 Conference USA Women's Championships and Men's Invitational at the University of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium. The ladies set marks in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay, while the men established a new record in the 800 free relay with Tyler Dunsmore posting a new record in the 1-meter diving competition.
The ECU women are fourth after the first session of the four-day meet, trailing first-place Rice by 14 points. Houston is in second-place, 10 points back of the front-running Owls followed by Tulane (-12), ECU (-14), Marshall (-20) and SMU (-34).
The Pirates are in second-place in the Men's Invitational with 101 points, 35 back of SMU (136). Florida Atlantic is in third-place with 99 points followed Western Kentucky with 88 points.
Athletes finishing first in their respective events will be named first-team all-conference. Second-place finishers earn second-team all-conference honors and third-place finishers will be named to the all-conference third team. At the conclusion of the meet a swimmer and diver of the meet will be named as will a swimming and diving coach of the year.
Thursday through Saturday's preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. each day.
