ECU Completes Day Two Of Competition At C-USA Championships

HOUSTON --- The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team remains in fourth-place after day two of the 2013 Conference USA Women's Championship being held at the University of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium. The men's team dropped to third-place in the C-USA Men's Invitational.
The ECU women have accumulated 198 points through 14 events and trail first-place Houston (248.5) by 50.5 points. Rice is in second-place with 228 points, followed by SMU (222.5), ECU, Tulane (132) and Marshall (114).
Senior diver Kirstie Russell posted the Pirates' best finish of the day, placing fourth on the women's 3-meter springboard with score of 256.60. Freshman Jillian Williams earned eighth-place in her first C-USA Championship event.
Lauren Baker and Lauren Chew each qualified for the finals of the women's 500-yard freestyle. Baker placed fifth with an ECU freshman record time of 4:53.90, while Chew finished in eighth-place (4:56.02).
Bailie Monahan (2:02.46) and Anna Holland Lawrence (2:03.63) each qualified for the finals of the women's 200-yard IM and placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Monahan's time was the best-ever in the event by an ECU freshman.
ECU has tallied 215 points in the men's invitational which is being held concurrently with the women's championships. SMU leads the meet with 329 points followed by Western Kentucky (315), ECU and Florida Atlantic (166).
Attila Kiraly captured fourth-place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.40.
Michael Dugan (4:25.76) placed fifth with an ECU freshman record time in the 500-yard freestyle and Julien Dodu (4:27.46) finished sixth. Dugan was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team which claimed fourth-place with a time of 1:23.05.
Action resumes Friday with the preliminaries will at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m.
