Swimming & Diving Teams Pick Up Three Wins In Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team won all 16 events to sweep a tri-meet from College of Charleston and Georgia Southern on Saturday, while the men's team captured 10 victories in a dual meet victory over CofC.

With the victories, the ladies improved to 3-1 on the season with a 198-94 win over CofC and a 193-99 triumph against GSU. The men's squad improved to 2-1 with a 175.50-124.50 conquest of the Cougars.

The women's team finished 1, 2, 3 in eight events and 1,2 in two additional events. Sophomore Anna Gibas claimed first-place in both backstroke events, as did senior Kristen Giese in the breaststroke races.

A trio of Pirates swept the freestyle events with senior Natalia Favoreto winning the 50 free, junior Holly Berenotto touching first in the 100 and 200 and freshman Megan Rossi claiming first-place in the 400 and 800. Favoreto also won the 100 fly.

Freshman Lauren Gray recorded a first-place finish in the 200 fly, as did classmate Danielle Morrin in the 200 IM.

On the men's side, freshman Rokas Cepulis won a trio of events as he touched first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Fellow rookie Nikola Simic took first in the 100 free. Senior Jonathan Bailey captured first-place in the 800 free as did junior J.D. Flanagan in the 100 fly.

ECU won all four diving events with senior Meghan Coyne recording high scores on the women's 1 and 3-meter springboards, feats duplicated by junior Tyler Dunsmore in the men's competition.



The Pirates return to action Wednesday, Nov. 2 against N.C. State inside Minges Natatorium at 5 p.m.
