Pirates Drop A Pair Of Dual Meets To N.C. State

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped their respective meets with N.C. State at Minges Natatorium on Wednesday night. The men's team fell to 2-2 on the season by a score of 132-104, while the Pirate women are now 3-2 after a 137-106 defeat.

In the first individual event of the meet, ECU freshman Megan Rossi set the school record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:09.66 in second-place, finishing 0.17 behind race winner Marifrances Henley. She later posted a third-place finish in the 500 free (5:03.71).

Senior Natalia Favoreto captured first-place in the 50-yard freestyle (23.92) by 0.20 over N.C. State's Hannah Fryman (24.12). The two then switched positions in the 100 free with Fryman (51.28) finishing 0.53 in front of Favoreto (51.81).

ECU swept the 200-yard backstroke events with sophomore Anna Gibas (2:03.82) touching first in the women's race and Attila Kiraly (1:53.29) on the men's side.

Freshman Rokas Cepulis and Nikola Simic also posted wins on the men's side. Cepulis won the 200-yard breaststroke by nearly three seconds over N.C. State's Jake Matysek. Simic claimed first-place in the 100 free by setting the ECU freshman record (45.53).

The ECU ladies swept the diving events with senior Katie Yamamoto capturing first-place on the 3-meter springboard (288.37) and Meghan Coyne doing the same on the 1-meter board (281.62).



The Pirates finished 2-3 in five events.

ECU returns to action Saturday, Nov. 12 against Chowan College at Minges Natatorium.
