Swimming & Diving Teams Compete At N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. --- The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet with Campbell and N.C. State at the Casey Aquatics Center on the N.C. State campus Friday night. The Pirates defeated Campbell, 183-53, but dropped its first meet of the year, 151-91 to the host Wolfpack. The men's team suffered its first loss of the year, falling to N.C. State, 169-67.

The ladies' record now stands at 4-1 overall this season, while the men are 3-1.

The Pirates recorded four first-place finishes. Freshman Alexandra Jones won the women's 200-yard IM (2:08.54) by 0.38 over N.C. State junior Kelsey Liu (2:08.92). Senior Holly Berenotto (52.10) edged Wolfpack freshman Mariah Hamil (52.39) by 0.29 to win the women's 100-yard freestyle for the third time in as many dual meets this season.

ECU sophomores Lauren Chew and Megan Rossi finished one, two in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Chew (5:06.07) touched 0.37 ahead of Rossi (5:06.38) to win her third 500 free race of the season.

Sophomore Rokas Cepulis posted the men's lone individual victory. Cepulis (2:05.76) won the 200-yard breaststroke by nearly two seconds (1:01.97) over Wolfpack junior Jake Matysck (2:07.73).

The Pirates also performed well in the diving events. Senior Kirstie Russell took second-place on the 3-meter board (271.06) and third on the 1-meter board (230.03). Junior Colleen Jones and freshman Jillian Williams finished fifth and sixth in the 1-meter competition.



Freshmen Sean Piacente placed third on the in the men's 3-meter with a score 291.53, edging out senior Tyler Dunsmore who placed fourth with a score of 2716.91 with Kyle Comiskey finishing sixth in the event. Dunsmore, Comiskey and Piacente finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively on the 1-meter board.

The Pirates return to dual meet competition Nov. 10 against William & Mary.
