ECU Sweeps Meet With College of Charleston and Georgia Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving teams recorded a sweep over College of Charleston and the women's squad also defeated Georgia Southern in tri-meet at the Theodore Stern Student Activities Center on Saturday.

The Pirate women defeated the Cougars 194-100 and the Eagles 173-121 to improve to 6-0 this season. The men posted a 177-106 win over the Cougars and have compiled a 3-1 dual meet record this year. The meet was contested using short course meters.

The women's team captured first-place in 11 events, while the men's team won 13 events.

Freshman Tori Angermeier along with sophomores Bailie Monahan and Megan Sellers each registered a pair of individual wins during the women's meet. Angermeier was victorious in the 100 and 200-meter freestyle races and was a member of the Pirates' first-place 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams.

Sellers, who was also part of the triumphant 200-medley relay team, won the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke. Monahan touched first in the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter IM.

Other winners for the ladies included freshmen Anastasia Amoiroglou (100 fly), junior Lauren Chew (400 free) and senior Anna Gibas (100 backstroke). Amoiroglou was also part of both victorious relay teams with Gibas a part of the 400-freestyle relay team as well.

On the men's side, junior Rokas Cepulis won a trio of individual events: 100 and 200-meter breaststroke and 200 individual medley, along with a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay as ECU won both of the relay events.

 

 

Freshman Adam Dear swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 and 200-meter races with sophomore Michael Dugan touching first in the 200 and 400-meter freestyle. Senior Attila Kiraly was the victor in the 200 back with sophomore Julien Dodu and freshman Fran Krznaric tied for first-place in the 800-meter freestyle.

Freshman Will Beliveau won both the 1 and 3-meter competition beating out sophomore teammate Alex Clark in both events.

ECU will return to action Nov. 21 when it begins competition in the three-day Nike Cup at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill.
