CHICAGO, Ill. --- The Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America unveiled its Spring 2009 list of Scholar-Athlete Teams which included both the East Carolina men's and women's teams. In all, 347 teams representing 238 colleges and universities earned the distinction based on a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"We are very proud once again to have been named a Scholar-Athlete Team by the CSCAA," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "It's an annual award for us and we work hard as a team to maintain this academic status."

The women's squad recorded a team GPA of 3.15, while the men's team posted a 3.06 GPA.

"Being the recipient of this award shows the dedication to academics represented from top to bottom within the swimming and diving program," said ECU Academic Coordinator Jamie Quinn. " As a whole the team has worked tirelessly to represent the title of student-athlete."

A total of 28 ECU swimmers and divers were named to Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this past year, including six that earned the C-USA Academic Medal posting a GPA of 3.75 or better.
