GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America has named the East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams as Scholar All-America Teams for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2014 spring semester with six members of the teams also receiving individual recognition.
The Scholar All-America Team award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and again in the spring to recognize teams achieving a 3.0 in the semester.
The ECU men's team had a 3.10 GPA during the spring 2014 semester, the best GPA in Conference USA, while the women's squad had a 3.29 GPA.
Sophomore Megan Sellers was distinguished as a first-team selection as she qualified for the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while constructing a 3.56 GPA as a hospitality management major. The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.
Michael Dugan, Anna Gibas, Colleen Jones, Bailie Monahan and Daniel Woods lauded the Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award, which is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard but did not qualify or compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets, zones or NCAA preliminary rounds.
