GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams will officially open the season Friday, Oct. 5, at the All-North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The two-day event starts Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.
A total of 13 schools will be competing in the invitational along with the Pirates including Campbell, Catawba, Davidson, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Greensboro College, Lenoir-Rhyne, N.C. A&T, N.C. State, Pfeiffer, Queens, UNC Asheville and Wingate.
The women's team is coming off an 8-3 season, which produced a third-place finish at the Conference USA Championships. The men's team posted a 4-4 record and also finished third at the league's year-end meet. The Pirates return 10 student-athletes who earned all-conference honors, including individual 200 IM champion Rokas Cepulis and 400 IM gold medalist Attila Kiraly. Danielle Morrin earned the silver medal in the women's 200 butterfly and Megan Rossi captured bronze in the 1650 freestyle.
Joining the Pirates for the 2012-13 is new assistant coach Kevin Woodhull-Smith, who spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at N.C. State, his alma mater. A four-year letterman, Smith was voted the team's Most Valuable as a senior in 2009-10.
Admission for the event is free, but parking at the Greensboro Aquatic Center will be $5 per day.
