IRVING, Texas - East Carolina freshman Bailie Monahan and senior Kirstie Russell have been named Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Monahan swept the butterfly events during the Pirates' dual meet victory against Davidson and was part of two winning relay teams. Russell won the three-meter diving competition.
Monahan received her first C-USA Swimmer-of-the-Week award as she recorded four first-place finishes during the dual meet victory against Davidson. She swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 (57.38) and 200 (2:04.53). Monahan touched the wall 0.18 seconds in front of teammate Lauren Gray to win the 200 and won the 100 by 2.42 seconds. She swam the third leg as part of the winning 400 free and 200 medley relay teams.
Russell earned her first Diver-of-the-Week award and second of her career after she won the three-meter diving competition during the dual meet against Davidson with a score of 274.05 and finished second on the one-meter board (239.10). Her first-place finish on the three-meter board was her first since setting the ECU freshman and pool record at Old Dominion in January 2010.
ECU returns to competition Friday, Oct. 26 in a tri-meet against Catawba and Limestone.
