LEXINGTON, Va. - The East Carolina pole vault athletes took center stage this weekend at the VMI Track Carnival and came away with a strong showing that should build confidence for the remainder of the season.

Junior Stephen Hodapp posted a mark of 5.12 meters to win the event while setting the East Carolina and meet record. Aaron Zakula recorded his personal-best as well, vaulting 5.02 meters to come in second. Teammate Henry Johnson would take fourth with a mark of 4.57 meters.

As for the ladies, Kathryn Warner and Rachel Webb checked in at 3.75 meters to grab fourth and fifth while Abbey Way and Katherine Gray rounded out the results at 3.45 and 3.30 meters respectively.

In the decathlon competition, freshman Dylan Spadaccini took seventh place with a total of 5,420 points. His best event was the 1,500-meter run where he came in third with a time of 4:50.73.

The Pirates continue their season Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., for a quad meet as well as Raleigh, N.C., for the Raleigh Relays.
