LEXINGTON, Va. - The East Carolina pole vault athletes took center stage this weekend at the VMI Track Carnival and came away with a strong showing that should build confidence for the remainder of the season.
Junior Stephen Hodapp posted a mark of 5.12 meters to win the event while setting the East Carolina and meet record. Aaron Zakula recorded his personal-best as well, vaulting 5.02 meters to come in second. Teammate Henry Johnson would take fourth with a mark of 4.57 meters.
In the decathlon competition, freshman Dylan Spadaccini took seventh place with a total of 5,420 points. His best event was the 1,500-meter run where he came in third with a time of 4:50.73.
The Pirates continue their season Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., for a quad meet as well as Raleigh, N.C., for the Raleigh Relays.
