Complete Day One Results

TULSA, Okla. - Buoyed by a 1-2 finish in the women's hammer throw, the East Carolina women's track team leads the field after day one of the 2009 C-USA Outdoor Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Pirate ladies hold a five-point edge over SMU while the men are in sixth-place with five points.

Maegan Lewis and Charlene Grady posted marks of 56.45 and 56.05 in the hammer event, both personal-best marks. The conference title for Lewis is the first for the program on the women's side since Colleen McGinn and Tara DeBrielle won the high jump and 800m run in 2004 at Louisville. Additionally, both Lewis and Grady qualified for the upcoming NCAA regionals in Greensboro, N.C.

Tara Wilson also participated for the women on day one, as she took seventh in the 10,000m run with a time of 37:48.31, keeping the ladies in the team lead.

For the men, Daniel Varela captured fourth-place in the hammer with a heave of 51.51m. Sebastien Biau and Jacques Ray also began competition in the decathlon, and sit in fourth and fifth-place, respectively, with point totals of 3071 and 2843.

Championship action continues Friday at 10 a.m. CT with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon events, as well as the preliminaries of the running events.

Single session championship tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for youth. C-USA students and staff with a valid I.D. are admitted free. Tickets are available by calling (918) 631-4688.
