HOUSTON, Texas - The 2014 Conference USA Outdoor Championships kicked off Thursday evening with the multi events. East Carolina sent three men and three women to compete on day one.
After the first day of competition, the Pirates are half way through the decathlon and heptathlon.
Junior Alexander Mobley-Hollie is in second place after seeing action in five events with 3,724 total points. He won the men's 400-meter dash decathlon with a personal-best time of 49.92 for a new ECU decathlon record.
On the women's side, freshman Jasmine Thompson leads ECU with 2,861 points in the heptathlon. She is in seventh place, while Aminah Ghaffar (2,635 points) and Madison Rayfield (2,629 points) are in 10th and 11th, respectively.
Thompson turned in her best showing in the high jump heptathlon with a second-place effort after notching a clearance of 1.64-meters (5-04.50).
Day two of the multi events will take place Friday, May 16 beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the decathlon and 3 p.m. for the heptathlon.
Friday's schedule also features the men's and women's hammer throws as well as the men's and women's 10,000-meter runs.
