June 9, 2012
DES MOINES, Iowa - The East Carolina track and field outdoor campaign drew to a close Saturday as senior Dennis Aliotta posted a 10th-place finish in the shot put at Drake Stadium on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
His mark of 18.92 placed him just outside of the three-attempt final as the top nine athletes received three more attempts to attempt to improve their standing.
The 2012 Conference USA Outdoor Performer of the Meet finished fourth in the shot put at the NCAA East Preliminary to earn his first career spot at the national championship. His season best mark of 63-7.38 (19.39m) was a league and program record as he secured his fourth conference title, indoor or outdoor, in the event.
As for the final team standings, the University of Florida men won their first-ever NCAA Outdoor Championship while the LSU women captured their 15th title in program history. By virtue of her third-place result yesterday in the high jump, junior All-America Tynita Butts gave the Pirates six points in the women's team standings.
