EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Matthew McConaughey closed his 2010 season Thursday by taking 16th in the javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.

McConaughey was the first male to participate in the national meet since Eric Frasure in the hammer throw in 2007. He was also Conference USA's lone entrant in the event this season.

After recording a 63.72-meter mark in the his first attempt, McConaughey fouled on his second throw before heaving the javelin 64.29 meters for his final mark.

The Pirates have one participant remaining in the meet as Tynita Butts competes in the long jump Saturday. She garnered All-America accolades in the high jump yesterday by tying for seventh-place. The event is slated to get underway at 12:30 p.m. ET
