EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore jumper Avion Jones earned a ninth-place finish in the men's high jump finals at the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
East Carolina sent Jones to the field as the only Pirate representative on day three of Nationals and he collected the highest finish for ECU thus far. Jones notched a clearance of 2.15-meters (7' 0.25") in the event to finish in the top 10.
Jones is the ECU school record holder in the men's high jump after tallying a distance of 2.21-meters (7' 3") at the Aggie Last Chance Meet earlier this season. The Virginia Beach, Va., native finished his sophomore year with four first-place finishes in the high jump and a First Team All-Conference USA nod.
The final day of action at the NCAA Outdoor Championships begins Saturday, June 14 at 12:30 p.m. PT. East Carolina will send five-time All-American Tynita Butts to the field in the women's high jump to compete at 12:45 p.m. PT.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be televised on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET.
