April 4, 2012
IRVING, Texas - Senior Erica Bell has been selected as a recipient of the Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of C-USA's student-athletes based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the academic year.
Bell has placed a high emphasis on reaching out to the community as a member of the Pirate track and field program. She volunteers three hours weekly at the ECU Pirate Tutor Center working with her peers. Bell also contributes her time at the Wintergreen Intermediate School Fall Carnival and the Pirate Club's 10K and Fun Run.
Bell maintains a 3.77 GPA as an exercise physiology major and recently earned a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal. She has earned a spot on the league's Commissioner's Honor Roll for three seasons of her collegiate career and is also a three-time ECU Dean's List selection. The native of Haddon Heights, N.J., holds the ECU pentathlon event records for the 800 meters and high jump.
Bell and her teammates return to action this weekend in Gainesville, Fla., at the prestigious Florida Relays. The meet is slated for April 6-7 at the Percy Beard Track.
