GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina track and field team will look to continue its successful outdoor season run as the Pirates head west to compete at the Charlotte Invitational. The two-day meet begins on Thursday, April 18 and will conclude on Friday, April 19.
The Pirates are coming off of a pair of meets at the Joe Hilton UNC Invitational and the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee.
Kayla Padgett and Krista Vincent were individual event winners at the Joe Hilton Invitational as Padgett bettered her previous personal record mark by 15 feet after notching a career-best throw of 57.07m (187-03.00) in the hammer throw. The sophomore now ranks fourth on the ECU Women's Outdoor Top 10 list. Vincent won the women's javelin with a career-best toss of 43.55m (142-10.00).
At the Sea Ray Relays, several Pirates recorded personal records. Tiffany Harris claimed second in the women's 200-meter dash preliminaries with a career-best qualifying time of 23.97. Harris' time is also good for sixth on the ECU Women's Outdoor Top 10 list. Additionally, Cameron Hudson earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash preliminaries with a personal-best time of 21.20 before placing seventh in the finals with a time of 21.85. He also had a fourth-place finish in the long jump after notching a mark of 7.26m (23-10.00).
The Pirates will use the Charlotte Invitational to continue preparing for the upcoming Conference USA Outdoor Championships which are less than a month away. The C-USA Outdoor Championships will be held in Houston, Texas beginning Thursday, May 9. The four-day competition will wrap up on Sunday, May 12.
