IRVING, Texas - East Carolina's Kayla Padgett was named Women's Field Performer of the Meet after her performance at the 2014 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Houston, Texas. Padgett earned the honors for the second time in her career after picking up the Women's Field Performer of the Meet at the 2014 C-USA Indoor Championships in March.
Padgett, a junior thrower, was a three-time All-Conference selection at the C-USA Outdoor Championships after earning gold in the discus and hammer throws and placing third in the shot put. Her mark of 52.79-meters (173-02.00) in the discus throw was almost one foot further than the second place finisher. She came back and won the hammer throw with a distance of 58.65-meters (192-05.00) which was nearly 13 feet better than the second place finisher. Padgett came in third in the shot put after tallying a mark of 14.98-meters (4-01.75).
The Shallotte, N.C., native helped the East Carolina women's squad win the Conference USA Outdoor Championships with 140 points which was more than 50 points better than UTEP, which placed second with 88 points. Padgett was also named the Women's High Point Performer of the Meet following the conference championship.
Padgett earned the accolades along with Anthony Rotich (UTEP) who was named Men's Track Performer of the Meet, Richard Garrett (UTSA) who took home the Men's Field Performer of the Meet award, as well as Elinor Kirk (UAB) who captured Women's Track Performer of the Meet.
