IRVING, Texas - Senior pole vaulter Henry Johnson was named to the 2014 Conference USA Track and Field All-Academic Team, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office. Johnson has collected the honor for the second consecutive time after being named to the team in 2013. The men's team features 13 members due to a tie, while the women's team consists of 11 members.

"We are very proud of Henry for receiving this award," Head Coach Curt Kraft said. "Henry sets a great example for our student-athletes to excel both on the field and in the classroom. He is a leader by example and always tries to do the right thing. It makes me very proud to see how much Henry has grown over the years as both a student and an athlete.

Johnson owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.73 and graduated earlier this month with a Bachelor's Degree in management accounting. During the 2013-14 academic year, Johnson was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

On the field, the Smithfield, N.C., native set the school record in the indoor pole vault after tallying a height of 5.20-meters (17' 00.25"). Johnson finished the indoor season with a second place finish at the C-USA Indoor Championships after recording a mark of 5.15-meters (16' 10.75") and was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team. He came back in the outdoor season and registered a personal-best height of 5.08-meters (16' 8") to rank second in the ECU record books. Johnson came away with a third-place finish in the pole vault at the C-USA Outdoor Championships en route to being named to the All-Conference USA Third Team.

Johnson is one of 20 East Carolina student-athletes who will participate in the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. He will represent the Pirates in the pole vault on Saturday, May 31 at noon.
