Merritt Reaches Semis At Olympic Trials
June 30, 2008
EUGENE, Ore. --- Former East Carolina sprinter LaShawn Merritt posted the fastest time of the quarterfinal round of the 400-meter race at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team Trials on Sunday.
Merritt won heat one of the men's 400m in 45.30 to advance to the semifinals on Monday. The finals are scheduled to be held Thursday night.
"I got the first round out of the way and feel good," said Merritt. "Time to go back to the room and recuperate and get ready for the semifinals tomorrow. The semifinals tomorrow are going to be pretty interesting because we get a two-day break. The semifinals are going to be pretty fast I think."
The top three finishers in each event at these Olympic Trials, who have met Olympic performance standards, will earn the ultimate prize of a spot on the Team USA roster for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
