July 24, 2012
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior Dennis Aliotta, junior Stephen Hodapp and sophomore Jakub Trzasalski have been named to the 2012 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team, according to an announcement Tuesday by the organization.
Aliotta was selected to the team for the second-straight season. The accolade comes on the heels of his designation on the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team - the first time in program history an athlete has been honored academically by the league.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
The trio earned spots on the team by producing GPAs of 3.77 (Trzasalski), 3.42 (Hodapp) and 3.37 (Aliotta). Additionally, all three athletes qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Aliotta participated in the hammer and shot put while Hodapp competed in the pole vault and Trzasalski ran in the 800-meter dash. Additionally, Aliotta advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put and finished 10th - earning USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America honors.
The USTFCCCA women's honorees will be released tomorrow while the team awards will be announced Thursday.
