Senior Brittany Copeland was named to the USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Team for the second-straight year.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Seniors Rebecca Cooper, Brittany Copeland and Amanda Lapp, as well as junior Brooke Kott, have been named to the 2012 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2012 Division I All-Academic Team as announced Wednesday by the organization. The selection marks the second consecutive for Copeland.
The USTFCCCA recognized a trio of men's track and field athletes yesterday, bringing the total number of Pirates honorees to seven for the 2011-12 academic year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Two of the four East Carolina honorees competed in the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Cooper (3.83 GPA) was a participant in javelin while Copeland (3.75) ran in the 5,000-meter event.
The USTFCCCA will release its team awards tomorrow.
