USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Team Honorees

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Rising senior throws specialist Dennis Aliotta has been named to the 2011 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team, according to an announcement from the organization.

Aliotta is a regular member of the East Carolina honor roll, owning a 3.37 grade-point average as a sports studies major. He has earned a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three times during his collegiate career. Additionally, before arriving in Greenville, Aliotta garnered the Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award at Moorpark (Calif.) College.

The Staten Island, N.Y., native is a two-time C-USA shot put champion and finished third at the most recent league meet. He captured two event titles this season, at the Mountains vs. Beaches III and the North Carolina Invitational. The East Carolina school-record holder qualified for the 2011 NCAA East Preliminary in Bloomington, Ind., in both the shot put and hammer throw - falling just .03 meters short of advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put.

Aliotta is the first Pirate athlete to earn the honor since Brittany Copeland, Matthew Dennish, Danielle Eiler and Jarrett Newby were recognized following the 2009 campaign.
