Sept. 17, 2010
CARY, N.C. - The East Carolina men's cross country team had four runners set program top-20 times and the women's squad had two top-20 all-time marks established Friday at the N.C. State Wolfpack Invitational, held at the WakeMed Soccer Park. The men's contingent took second of seven teams while the women claimed third of 10. The N.C. State men and Richmond women won the meet.
For the second-straight meet, junior Zack Montijo led the way for the Pirates with a record performance. Montijo finished seventh overall and completed the 5K course in a 15:23.1 for the third-best time in program history. He has finished first for the Pirates in both meets this season after pacing the squad each time he ran during the 2008 season.

Hawley came in 14th with a time of 15:41.5, the ninth-fastest mark ever by a Pirate. Hampshire was one spot behind, finishing in 15:47.5 for the 12th-best mark in program history. Burress timed out in a personal-best 15:52.8 to claim 17th overall and take over 14th on the program's all-time list.
Sophomore Antonio Palmer ran a career-best 16:28.0 to come in 21st overall.
As she has for every meet in her career, junior Brittany Copeland paced the Pirates, turning in the program's ninth-fastest 5K with a time of 17:57.4. She came in ninth overall and three places ahead of classmate Tara Wilson, who completed the race in a career-best, and 19th-fastest in ECU history, 18:12.4. Rounding out the top-20 finishers was junior Amanda Lapp, who placed 14th with a personal-best time of 18:26.3.
Freshmen Bjork Olsen and Chelsea Hollingsworth followed with top-25 finishes. Olsen placed 21st with a time of 18:46.9 while Hollingsworth timed out at 18:51.4 to claim 24th place. Classmate Amanda Tomlin was the final ECU runner to finish in the top 40, taking 36th (19:47.1).
