Complete Charlotte Invitational Results

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
 Facing off against the stiffest competition of the season against 13 regionally ranked teams, East Carolina's women's cross country team placed sixth of 30 in the gold race and the men's squad earned 17th of 35 on Friday, Sept. 28, at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational. ECU's women's team also put together a second group that finished fourth in the green race competed at later in the early afternoon. All four races (men's and women's gold and green races) were compete at McAlphine Park and featured 697 runners representing 86 men's and women's programs from the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III schools.

The women's team, who are the ninth-ranked program in the Southeast according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, were led by junior Bjork Olsen. Olsen ran a personal-best time of 21:38.62 to place seventh overall in the competition in the top race that saw 233 women competing for the crown. Olsen's time also was the sixth-best time ever recorded for ECU in a 6k event. This is her second straight race where she finished as ECU's top runner after winning the Pirate Invitational last week at Lake Kristi. Olsen was joined by three other teammates that all placed in the top 60 in the race in personal-best times in junior Chelsea Hollingsworth (15th/22:13.35), freshman Shewit Weldense (36th/22:44.10) and redshirt junior Stacey Gonzalez (57th/23:04.58). Hollingsworth's personal-best time also puts her in 19th place in a 6k event in the ECU record books. Redshirt sophomore Stefanie Fresenius was not far behind the initial ECU group of three in 64th place with a 23:10.00. Fellow redshirt sophomore Olivia Slate had a personal-best 23:17.63 to finish 74th. Junior Kaylee Bythell rounded out the initial women's group for ECU in 154thh place (26:10.50).


 

 

ECU second group of five women competed well in finishing fourth in the green team race. Freshman Jessica Rossabi paced that group in sixth place with a 23:31.96. Junior Kelley Miko also had a top 10 finish for ECU with a ninth-place showing (23:39.71). Redshirt sophomore Michelle Bailey (22nd/24:09.80), junior Amanda Tomlin (31st/24:30.46) and freshman Rachel Rice (46th/25:28.32) round out the second race for the Pirates.

The men's team was paced by redshirt sophomore Chase Miller in 52nd place (255:53.29) in the 8k gold race. The Pirates had an additional pair of top 100 finishes in junior Jakub Trzasalski (76th/26:16.56) and redshirt freshman Brather Cline (100th/26:41.95). Redshirt junior Cory Hampshire, sophomore Tevin Richardson and freshman John Young rounded out the competitors in the initial men's grouping for ECU in 115th (27:01.89), 124th (27:10.37) and 137th (27:29.60) place, respectively.

The green race saw two additional ECU men's runners finish in the top 70 in freshman Dylan Traywick (50th/28:03.71) and sophomore Adam Morrow (62nd/28:38.99).

The Pirates take next weekend off before returning to action at Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky. on Oct. 13 starting at 9:30 a.m.
