Terre Haute, Ind. - The East Carolina cross country teams ran in the highly competitive Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday. Going against a field of nationally ranked teams, the Pirate men finished 41st and the women in 40th-place.

For the third time in three meets, the men's team top-three performers did not change. Freshman Zack Montijo, who finished the 8,000-meter run in 25.54, came in first for the Pirates with junior Andrew Nastasiak (26:03) and senior Drew Jenkins (27:14) right behind. Fourth-place on the team was Shaffey Singh with a time of 27:44, and rounding out the Pirate performers was redshirt junior Jarrett Newby (28:10). The marks by Montijo, Nastasiak, Jenkins and Singh were all improvements over their last race, the ECU Pirate Invitational on September 27.

On the women's side, sophomore Brittany Copeland led the team for the second straight meet, finishing the 6,000-meter race in 22:09. Juniors Nicole Briggs (22:51) and Samantha Lichtner (23:35) turned in their usual solid performances. Senior Hollie Brooks checked in with a time of 24:44 and freshman Amanda Lapp (24:52) and sophomore Lisa DeLorenzo (25:10) completed the top-six for ECU.

Next on the docket for both teams is the Conference USA Championship in Memphis, Tenn., on November 1.
