GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina men’s and women’s cross country teams will make the short trip west to Cary, N.C., for the 2013 Wolfpack Adidas Invitational Friday afternoon at the WakeMed Cross Country Course.
The men's race will begin at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's race at approximately 5:45 p.m. The races are free to the public.
At the same meet in 2012, the women’s team took third place behind NC State and North Carolinas with 63 points after placing five runners among the top 20 finishers. Stacey Gonzalez led the Pirates with a 12th-place finish in a time of 17:42.0 on the 5K course, followed by Bjork Olsen in 14th (17:49.2), Chelsea Hollingsworth in 15th (17:59.8), Stefanie Fresenius in 18th (18:16.7) and Shewit Weldense in 19th (18:27.9).
The men’s team also placed third with 78 points and was led by Chase Miller’s 15th-place performance with a time of 15:30.3. Cory Hampshire (15:37.5) and Jakub Trzasalski (15:47.7) recorded top-20 finishes of their own, crossing the finish line in 18th and 19th place, respectively.
ECU’s women’s team is coming off a repeat victory at UNC Wilmington’s Seahawk Invitational two weeks ago, where Brooke Kott paced the field and was victorious while leading six total Pirates to top-10 finishes. The Pirates took second place in the men’s race behind Hampshire’s eighth-place showing.
