GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a two-week break between meets, the East Carolina men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Denton, Texas for the 2013 Conference USA Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 2.

The men’s 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. [ET] followed by the women’s 5K race at 11 a.m., at the Eagle Point  Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of North Texas. The event will be the first championship of the newly realigned C-USA, including13 men’s and 15 women’s cross country teams.

“Given the nature of the conference with nationally-ranked teams, the expectation is that we’re going to go in there and perform to the best of our abilities,” said head coach Dan Lee. “We’ve got a lot of really good runners, and I expect to have all-conference runners and season-best times. The last week’s training has gone very well and I’m confident that we are going to peak.”

The top seven finishers in both races will earn first team all-conference honors, while runners finishing eighth to 14th will receive second team recognition. Those crossing the finish line in the 15-21 range will be named third team honorees.

At last year’s championships, the women’s team finished third overall, while the men’s team claimed seventh. Bjork Olsen earned first team honors, and Chelsea Hollingsworth claimed second-team recognition in the women’s race. Brooke Kott, the squad’s top runner thus far in 2013, was an all-league performer in 2011.
