IRVING, Texas - East Carolina senior cross country runner Antonio Palmer was recently announced by Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky as one of the 12 student-athletes to receive the 2012-13 C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award. He was one of four cross country honorees on the list this fall.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designated to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season. Today’s honorees represent C-USA’s fall sports: football, soccer, volleyball and cross country.

Palmer is a member of both ECU’s cross country and track & field teams. A health and fitness major, Palmer stays active in the community with a number of service projects. The Gaithersburg, Md. native has also worked on a number of ECU athletic initiatives, including Letterwinners Weekend and the Track & Field Invitational.

During the past cross country season, Palmer competed in six meets and won a pair of 5K events. He started his season with an individual victory at the Seahawk Invitational.
