GREENVILLE, N.C. - Corey Kemp was 3-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored and senior T.J. Hose fanned six batters as East Carolina took game one of the Saturday doubleheader against Presbyterian College 11-2. With the win ECU improves to 31-13 on the season while Presbyterian drops to 12-29.

Hose gave up two runs on four hits in six innings of work and improved to 3-4 on the season. The Pirates bull pen (Daniel Holder, Matt Cox and Matt Laney) shut down the Blue Hose in the final three frames by not allowing a hit and striking out three.

Jesse Harmon dropped to 1-6 on the season after lasting three innings where he gave up five runs (all earned) on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Mitchell Odom worked and 1 1/3 innings surrendering four runs on five hits with one walk before giving way to Micah Black (1.2 IP, 1 B). Jim Wagers (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB) and Daniel Hill (0.2 IP, 1 H) closed out the game.

ECU jumped out on Presbyterian early taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Harrison Eldridge walked to start the inning, stole second and took third on a throwing error by the catcher Drew Wingo. Stephen Batts drew a one-out walk and Eldridge touched home on a Harmon wild pitch that also moved Batts to second. Corey Kemp followed with a walk an after a double-steal put runners on second and third, Brandon Henderson scored Batts from third on his ground out to short. ECU's final run came when Jamie Ray laced a double down the left field line scoring Kemp.

Jared Combs put the Blue Hose on the board in the second when he led off the frame with a solo shot to left field.

The Pirates pushed two runs across in the third inning and took a 5-1 lead. Kemp and Henderson had back-to-back singles with one out just before Ray drove in his second run of the game on a ground out to first that scored Kemp. Henderson touched home when Kyle Roller singled through the right side.

Combs once again plated a run for Presbyterian this time in the fourth cutting the Pirates lead to three, 5-2. With one-out Combs doubled-down the left field line then took third when Horton grounded out to first before coming home on a Hose wild pitch.

ECU extended its lead to seven, 9-2, in the fifth inning thanks to four hits. Batts walked for the second time to start the inning then moved to third on Kemp's second single through the left side. Henderson plated Batts for the first run with a shot to center which advanced Kemp second. Kemp took third on a passed ball and came home on Ray's third RBI of the day, a sac fly to center. Roller followed with a double that pushed Henderson home and Harrington singled to left scoring Roller.

Kemp drove in a pair of runs in the eighth giving ECU an 11-2 lead to cap the scoring in the game. Trent Ashcraft single to center with one out then moved to third when Broc Sutton and Austin Homan drew back-to-back walks setting up Kemp's third hit of the game, a single through the right side.

GAME NOTES:

  • Harrison Eldridge stole one base on the day and moved into fourth place on the schools all-time list with 56. With his walk in the first inning, he moved into third place on the schools all-time list with 114 for his career.
  • Jamie Ray drove in three runs in the first game of the doubleheader and has nine RBI in his last four games.
  • Corey Kemp notched his 31st career multi-hit game with his single through the left side in the fifth. He finished the game with a game-best three hits and drove in two runs.
  • Brandon Henderson recorded his 38th career multi-hit game with his RBI single up the middle in the fifth.
  • Kyle Roller was 2-for-2 on the afternoon with two RBI marking his 21st career multi-hit and 19 multi-RBI games of his career.
  • ECU pounded out double-digit hits for the 30th time this season and has scored 10 or more runs in 16 games.
