Reynolds Named To Stopper-Of-The-Year Watch List
Feb. 11, 2014
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's Drew Reynolds is one of four Conference USA relief pitchers named to the 10th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper-of-the-Year Award, given to the nation's top collegiate baseball reliever. Joining Reynolds from C-USA are Florida Atlantic's Kevin Alexander, Rice's Zech Lemond and Tulane's Ian Gibaut.
The Pirates top utility player the last two seasons, Reynolds earned Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-Conference USA honors a year ago, after leading ECU with a .322 average and 68 hits, while ranking second with 13 doubles and fourth with 30 runs scored. On the mound the Cherryville, N.C. native posted a 3-2 record with a 2.92 ERA and recorded a league and team-best 14 saves, which also ranked 14th nationally.
Expected to be the Pirates Opening Day second baseman, Reynolds will once again be the closer in 2014 and is three saves shy of breaking the schools all-time record, which is currently held by Seth Simmons (26 from 2008-11). He has garnered All-America honors by the NCBWA (first-team) and Collegiate Baseball (second-team), as well as first-team all-league accolades by College Sports Madness and Perfect Game. Reynolds was also named C-USA Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Year by the leagues 13 head coaches back on January 29.
Reynolds and the Pirates will open the 2014 season on Friday, Feb. 14 when they play host to James Madison at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. (EST).
