• The two teams will meet for the 77th time on the diamond with ECU holding a 54-22 all-time advantage ... But of late, Campbell has owned the series winning four of the last six meetings including a series sweep a year ago (6-4 in Greenville, 8-6 in Buies Creek) ... Both clubs won their opening weekend series with the Pirates taking 2 of 3 from James Madison, while the Camels swept La Salle.

• The Pirates enter this weeks action receiving votes in three polls (NCBWA, Perfect Game and USAToday/ESPN Coaches poll).

• ECU returns 18 letterwinners including Second-Team Louisville Slugger All-American Drew Reynolds and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American David Lucroy. Joining Reynolds (first-team) and Lucroy (second-team/freshman team), who were also All-Conference USA performers in 2013, are Hoffman (second-team/'13), Zach Houchins (second-team/'13) and Travis Watkins (freshman team/'13).

• Also stepping onto the diamond are 16 new faces, which consist of five junior college transfers in Hunter Allen (Brunswick CC), James Gray (South Florida State College), Reid Love (St. Johns River State College), Brandon Saunders (Pitt CC) and Ian Townsend (St. Johns River State College)

• The Pirates also welcome to campus 11 true freshmen in Luke Bolka, Kirkpatrick, TJ McDonald, Bryce Harman, Evan Kruczynski, Kirk Morgan, Philip Perry, Cameron Snow, Eric Tyler, Jacob Wolfe and Charlie Yorgen.

Kirkpatrick Notes: Eight-time letterwinner (baseball 4, football 4) who helped Coach Jason Mills and the Vikings to three straight Coastal 3A Conference titles (2011-13) ... As a freshman appeared in eight games batting .294 (5-for-17) with a double and four runs scored ... Followed that ] batting .380 (32-for-84) with a pair of home runs, 19 RBI, six doubles and 18 runs scored ... On the mound made three appearances posting a 1-0 record with a 2.89 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 9.2 innings ... During junior season earned North Carolina All-State honors, named Coastal 3A Conference Player-of-the-Year and was a first team all-conference selection ... In 24 games he batted .405 (30-for-74) with three home runs, 31 RBI, six doubles and 22 runs scored ... Posted a 7-2 record on the mound with an impressive 0.92 ERA over 47 innings with 84 strikeouts ... Named 2012 Preseason High Honorable Mention Underclassmen All-American by Perfect Game ... As a senior helped Conley to a 28-5 record and a runner-up finish in the North Carolina State Championships ... Earned second-straight North Carolina All-State honor after batting .400 with a home run, three triples, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases ... Named Daily Reflector Pitcher-of-the-Year after posting a 13-1 record with a 0.55 ERA ... Struck out 154 in 88.1 innings ... Earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Region honors by Perfect Game ... Threw a pair of no-hitters on the season ... Against West Craven struck out a school-record 19 in a 7-0 win ... Later on fanned 13 while walking three against Jacksonville in a 4-0 victory ... Tossed complete game in the final of the Eastern Regional series to eliminate Orange ... Added another complete game during the state championship series to force a winner-take-all Game 3 against Weddington ... In the third round in the playoffs he struck out 12 allowing one hit over five frames ... Listed as the 31st-best prospect in North Carolina by Perfect Game following senior season.

Drew Reynolds has earned plenty of preseason praise heading into the 2014 opener ... Recently he was tabbed Conference USA Co-Player-of-the-Year by the leagues head coaches becoming just the third Pirate since 2002 (ECU's first year in C-USA) to garner preseason player-of-the-year honors following Darryl Lawhorn (2004) and Seth Maness (2009) ... The Pirates top utility player the last two seasons, Reynolds earned Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-Conference USA honors a year ago after leading ECU with a .322 average and 68 hits, while ranking second with 13 doubles and fourth with 30 runs scored ... On the mound the Cherryville, N.C. native posted a 3-2 record with a 2.92 ERA and recorded a league and team-best 14 saves, which also ranked 14th nationally ... Expected to see time at second base and as the closer again in 2014, has garnered preseason All-America honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (first-team) and Collegiate Baseball (second-team), as well as first-team all-league accolades by Perfect Game ... Reynolds has recorded at least on hit in all three games this season and pushed his current streak of reaching base safely to eight games dating back to last season.

• Junior college transfer Ian Townsend made his presence known in this first game with the Pirates belting a three-run homer in the ECU's 6-5 series opening win against James Madison ... The Brooksville, Fla. native leads the team with four RBI and six total bases, where is he batting .250 (3-for-12) with a pair of runs.

• Senior Zach Houchins also recorded at least one base hit in all three games in the James Madison series ... Currently he is batting .308 (4-for-13) with an RBI, one run scored and two stolen bases.

• ECU Head Coach Billy Godwin enters his 15th career as a college head coach, where he owns a career record of 548-274-1 ... At ECU he is 286-189-1 in nine seasons ... His 286 wins trails only ECU Hall of Famer Dr. Gary Overton, who amassed 427 wins in 13 years (1985-1997) as the Pirates' skipper.
