East Carolina picked up its second series win in Conference USA action this past weekend taking a home series from UCF. Seth Maness (5-3, 2.05 ERA) and Kevin Brandt (5-0, 1.38 ERA) notched wins for the Pirates over the Knights, while freshman Jack Reinheimer led the team offensively with a .526 average where he was 10-for-19 with a team-best four RBI.

The Pirates have a yet another difficult week as they will play four games in five days which includes a Tuesday night match-up at home against instate rival UNC Wilmington (6 p.m. EST) before heading to Houston, Texas for a three-game league series against Houston that starts Thursday, April 21 (7:30 p.m. EST).

Pirate Hitter-of-the-Week
Jack Reinheimer, Freshman, SS
Reinheimer helped the Pirates to a 2-2 week which included a series win against UCF ... He led the squad with a .526 (10-for-19) average, while also ranking tops in hits (10), RBI (4), total bases (10), slugging (.526), on-base percentage (.550) and collected three multi-hit games ... Against the fifth-ranked Tar Heels he was 3-for-5 with a RBI recording singles in his first three at-bats ... He followed that with a career-best 4-for-4 performance in ECU's 12-6 opening series win over UCF, which included a pair of RBI, two runs scored and a walk ... Reinheimer reached base five times and collected a pair of singles in the Pirates' six-run third frame ... In game two versus the Knights he was 1-for-4 and closed the series with a 2-for-5 outing which included a RBI single in the second, extending his current hitting streak to five games where he batted .478 (11-for-23) ... Currently he is batting a team-best .339 (39-for-115) with 17 RBI (four game-winning) and 17 runs scored and has started 29 of 33 games at shortstop.

Brandt picked up the series clinching win against the Knights working 8.0 innings in his fifth start of the season ... He improved to 5-0 on the year and recorded his third-straight win in his last three outings (2 starts, 1 relief) ... From the third to the seventh inning he retired 13-of-14 batters faced allowing a single to Derek Luciano before picking him off at first, his second pickoff of the day ... In all he allowed three runs (all earned) on eight hits (one extra base hit) with five strikeouts ... As a starter he is 3-0, boasts a 1.73 ERA and has struck out 28 in 36.1 innings ... Coming out of the bullpen, Brandt is 2-0 with an impressive 0.57 ERA in six outings ... On the season he has fanned 40 batters while walking 13 and owns a 1.38 ERA, which ranks among the national leaders ... He has combined on three shutouts and recorded his second career complete game against No. 21 Rice on April 10 ... Opposing teams are hitting a composite .193 against him.

During ECU's four-game week, the starting pitching allowed eight runs (all earned) in 21.1 innings of work and recorded three quality starts (6.0 IP or more and 3 or less ERs) ... Seth Maness improved to 5-3 on the season notching his fourth career win against UCF in the series opener ... He worked 6.0 innings allowing one run (earned) on four hits with three strikeouts ... Maness also recorded his 33rd career win, which moved him into a tie for second place on C-USA's all-time wins list (21-5 all-time vs. C-USA members) ... The right-hander is also the NCAA co-Career Active Leader in wins with Canisius' Shane Davis ... With his three punch outs, Maness has 312 for his career which ranks third all-time at ECU and is fifth on the NCAA Career Active leaders chart ... Mike Wright (4-2) suffered his second loss of the season giving up three runs (all earned) on four hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings ... The 6-foot-5 righty has fanned 39 on the season in 54.2 innings and sports a 2.80 ERA in nine starts ... All three weekend starters rank among the league leaders in ERA (Brandt/1.38/3rd; Maness/2.05/5th; Wright/2.80/10th), while Brant has the second-lowest opponent batting average (.193) ... Maness is second in innings pitch (66.0 IP) and is tied for third in strikeouts (58).

Senior RHP Brad Mincey appeared in two games out of the bullpen this week tossing 7.2 innings ... He allowed four runs (all unearned) on nine hits with four strikeouts ... Against No. 5 North Carolina, he spelled starter Zach Woods in the second, working 5.0 innings where he surrendered four runs on six hits with a pair of punch outs ... Against UCF he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings allowing three hits with two more strikeouts ... On the season he owns a 4-2 record, boasts a NCAA-best 0.47 ERA in 18 games ... He has allowed 10 runs (two earned) on 35 hits and has fanned 28 while walking just eight in 38.2 innings ... In 17 game out of the bullpen, Mincey has a 0.27 ERA and has not allowed an earned run in 32.2 consecutive innings (one in 35.0 relief innings).

Shawn Armstrong, Joseph Hughes and Seth Simmons each had scoreless outings on the week ... Armstrong had a perfect relief outing at No. 5 UNC with two strikeouts in one inning ... Hughes, who has appeared in nine games and sports a 1.50 ERA, tossed a pair of scoreless innings (UNC and UCF) where he struck out two ... Simmons closed out ECU's series clinching win over UCF allowing one hit and striking out the side for his fifth save of the season (25th career/school-record) ... In 17 games he owns a 4-1 record with 29 strikeouts ... He has allowed just two runs (one earned) in 19.0 innings and boasts a 0.47 ERA ... Opposing hitters are batting a composite .159 against him.

Offensively the Pirates averaged 10.75 hits in each of their four games and had double-digit hits in all three contests against UCF ... They batted .316 on the week scoring 22 runs on 43 hits ... Chase McDonald had an impressive week batting .400 (6-for-15) with two RBI and three runs scored ... He recorded a career-best four hits in the series finale against UCF going 4-for-4 and drove in the game-winning run on a two-RBI single in the third ... Fellow freshman Ben Fultz batted .200 (3-for-15) on the week with three RBI, but led the club with four runs and drew a team-best five free passes ... In the series opener against UCF he smacked his third home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the first on the second pitch he saw ... Fultz closed the game with a RBI triple in the seventh, his second of the season ... Philip Clark batted .400 (4-for-10) with three runs in three starts, while Tim Younger had three RBI in six official at-bats (also had two walks and a sacrifice) ... John Wooten, who leads the team in hits (40), and Zach Wright each had five base knocks on the week, while Corey Thompson and Trent Whitehead added four ... Thompson collected his team-leading fifth game-winning hit in the series opener with a two-RBI single in the third ... Wright is second on the team in batting with a .305 (30-for-128) average ... He has hit a team-best nine home runs, while adding 10 doubles, 26 RBI and 28 runs scored ... His nine round trippers is tied for second in C-USA action (all games) ... Whitehead extended his current streak to 17-straight games reaching base safely with his bunt single in the third inning of Sunday's 5-3 win over UCF.

Head Coach Billy Godwin recorded his 480th career win and 217th Pirate win against UCF on Sunday, April 17 ... Currently he ranks second all-time in the win column at ECU trailing only Gary Overton (427).

Eight pitchers with at least 10.0 innings of work have an ERA of 2.80 or lower with six having a sub-2.00 ERA ... On a national scale, the Pirates rank second in ERA (2.08), ninth in shutouts (6) and tied for eighth in opposing batting average (.221) ... They have allowed 75 earned runs (tied for fourth) ... ECU owns an 8-5 record in one-runs games and a 10 of its 12 losses have been run two runs or less ...
