GREENVILLE, N.C.--Ricky Brooks tossed the first nine-inning no-hitter in Conference USA history as ECU defeated Memphis Sunday 3-0 at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Adam Amar was the lone Tiger to reach base on a strikeout wild pitch that got away from catcher Jake Smith, allowing him to reach first, breaking up the perfect game.

The nine-inning no-hitter was the first thrown by a Pirate since Foye Minton kept N.C. State hitless in an 8-0 win over the Wolfpack on Feb. 14, 1999 in Charleston, S.C. Prior to Minton's no-hitter, the most recent nine-inning no-hitter in school history was thrown by Mickey Britt in 1978.

In front of an announced attendance of 2,559, ECU (23-16, 9-9 C-USA) shutout Memphis (10-28, 4-14 C-USA) in one hour and forty-three minutes.

Brooks, who came within one out of recording a no-hitter earlier this season versus Charlotte on March 26, went the complete nine innings for the third time this season. He also struck out a career-high 14 batters, shattering his previous mark of nine he set last weekend at Louisville. The sophomore right-hander faced just the one batter over the minimum 27 en route to his fourth win of the season. He struck out at least two batters in five different innings and tossed just 98 pitches on the day.

Brooks got Cory Barton to groundout to short to lead off the ninth before getting Collin Bastien to strikeout for the second out of the ninth. He then got Memphis rightfielder Drew Newsom to fly out on the first pitch to Harrison Eldridge in right to secure the no-hitter.

Dale Mollenhauer and Jamie Ray each collected two hits with Mollenhauer going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored while Ray batted 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Stephen Gostkowski pitched well in a losing effort for Memphis, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out four in eight innings of work.

Peisel hit an opposite field single to right to score Mollenhauer, who reached earlier in the inning on a bunt single, giving ECU the early 1-0 lead after one.

With runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Gostkowski balked, scoring Ray for the Pirate's second run of the game. Second baseman Patrick Hope's error on a Mollenhauer ground ball allowed Brett Lindgren to score from third, pushing the lead to 3-0.

ECU will travel to Charleston Tuesday, April 26 to face The Citadel at 3 p.m. at Joe Riley Park. The Pirates will then return home next weekend to host the Cincinnati Bearcats April 29 - May 1.
