THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME (prior to series)
Heading into the final three weeks of Conference USA action, both ECU and FIU are jockeying for one of the Top-8 spots to make the 2014 C-USA Championships ... ECU comes into the weekend tied for third with UAB and has won 8 of its 11 games, which included a series sweep of North Carolina (first since 1994), and league wins over MTSU and at FAU.
FIU is tied with MTSU for seventh in the standings at 11-10 and has won 7 of its last 10 contests picking up series wins at Louisiana Tech and a four-game non-conference weekend sweep of St. Peter's.
Saturday's game of the series has been moved to a 6:30 p.m. (ET) start to accommodate television as Fox Sports will broadcast the game live from Clark-LeClair Stadium (live streaming on ECUPirates.com will not be available for this game) ... Ron Thulin will be handling the play-by-play, while former Major League hurler Pat Combs (Phillies, 1989-92) will provide the color ... Heading into the season, ECU returned 18 letterwinners including Second-Team Louisville Slugger All-American Drew Reynolds and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American David Lucroy. Joining Reynolds (first-team) and Lucroy (second-team/freshman team), who were also All-Conference USA performers in 2013, are Hoffman (second-team/'13), Zach Houchins (second-team/'13) and Travis Watkins (freshman team/'13).
Also stepping onto the diamond were 16 new faces, which consist of five junior college transfers in Hunter Allen (Brunswick CC), James Gray (South Florida State College), Reid Love (St. Johns River State College), Brandon Saunders (Pitt CC) and Ian Townsend (St. Johns River State College)
The Pirates also welcomed to campus 11 true freshmen in Luke Bolka, Kirkpatrick, TJ McDonald, Bryce Harman, Evan Kruczynski, Kirk Morgan, Philip Perry, Cameron Snow, Eric Tyler, Jacob Wolfe and Charlie Yorgen.

Ryan Williams entered this weeks action as the NCAA co-leader in wins (10), 8th in K-to-BB ratio (8.43), 12th in appearances (26) and 13th in BBs per 9 Inn (0.86) ... He also ranks among C-USA leaders in seven other pitching categories ... In 26 games, Williams is 10-2 with seven saves and has 59 strikeouts to just seven walks ... The right-hander has allowed 20 runs (14 earned) on 63 hits for a 1.71 ERA ... He is holding opposing batters to a .229 composite average ... On March 15, he picked up both wins in the doubleheader sweep against Tulane marking the first Pirate since Gary Smith in 1987 to accomplish that feat (vs. Rider on March 24) ... In the last week, Williams has been named to the NCBWA Midseason Stopper-of-the-Year and College Baseball Hall of Fame National Pitcher-of-the-Year Watch Lists.
Senior RHP Drew Reynolds became ECU's all-time saves leader after picking up a pair of saves at the 11th Annual Keith LeClair Classic ... The Cherryville, N.C. native entered the 2014 season with 24 and is 5-for-7 in save opportunities this season ... After tying the mark, previously held by Seth Simmons (2008-11), against Pittsburgh on March 1 following a perfect ninth, Reynolds set the new standard of 27 (currently has 29) in the LeClair Classic Championship against Ohio State allowing a run on three hits in one inning.
Senior Zach Houchins currently leads the team in hits (66), batting average (.349), doubles (13), total bases (85), multi-hit games (22), and share the lead in stolen bases (five) with Garrett Brooks.
ECU Head Coach Billy Godwin is in his 15th career as a college head coach, where he owns a career record of 574-292-1 ... At ECU he is 312-207-1 in nine seasons ... He recorded his 300th career win at ECU in game two of the doubleheader against UMBC (6-0) ... His 312 wins trails only ECU Hall of Famer Dr. Gary Overton, who amassed 427 wins in 13 years (1985-1997) as the Pirates' skipper.
