ECU Battery Named C-USA All-Academic

Avchen is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and has been named to the ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll for four consecutive semesters. The senior catcher was also named to ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA All-District First-Team and will be on the national ballot for ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA All-America honors.
Off the diamond, the two-time Johnny Bench Award Watch-List Candidate, has started 35 of 43 games played where he is batting .295 (41-for-139) with a career-best seven home runs and 38 RBI.
Maness, a two-time first-team All C-USA selection, boasts a 3.37 grade-point average in business and is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and three-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll recipient.
Between the lines Maness leads the league in wins (9) and innings pitched (93.2) while ranking among the league leaders (all games) in strikeouts (82) and fewest walks (15). In three seasons for the Pirates, he sports a 27-8 career record which ranks in the career top-five in C-USA (t4th) and ECU (t5th), while owning a 17-3 career ledger in league games only.
The Pirates (31-25) are in Houston, Texas for the 2010 Conference USA Championship will get underway on Wednesday, May 26. As the sixth seed, ECU will square off with top-seeded Rice in game one at 4 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday before playing No. 2 Southern Miss (May 27 at noon) and No. 3 Memphis (May 28 at noon).
