TUCSON, Ariz. - Following Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors, left-handed pitcher Kevin Brandt was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team announced this week by Collegiate Baseball.

The Fuquay Varina, N.C. native has made 27 appearances this season, logging five starts, and owns a 9-1 record. Brandt has a 3.52 ERA and has struck out 67 while walking just 21 batters in 76.2 innings pitched. On April 27 he was named Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week after leading ECU to a shutout victory over then-No. 1 North Carolina, the Pirates' opponent in this weekend's NCAA Super Regional.

Brandt gives East Carolina a freshman All-American pitcher for the second straight season, following Seth Maness last season. He is also the second Pirate this season named to an all-america squad following senior Ryan Wood's third-team selection by Collegiate Baseball on May 28.

The Pirates and Tar Heels will play game one of the Chapel Hill Super Regional Saturday, June 6 with a first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. (EDT), which will be televised on ESPNU.
