GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina senior Zach Houchins was selected in the 13th round by the Los Angeles Angles Saturday afternoon during the third day of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Houchins, who earned First-Team All-Conference USA honors in 2014, was taken with the 389th overall pick and is the third Pirate selected in this year's draft behind Jeff Hoffman (No. 9 overall/Toronto Blue Jays) and Ryan Williams (10th RD/Chicago Cubs).

Led team and C-USA in hits (84) becoming the third Pirate in school history to lead the league in total hits (Darryl Lawhorn/2002 and Trent Whitehead/2009) ... Also led the team and ranked among league leaders in average (2nd/.347), total bases (4th/109), doubles (t5th/16), on-base percentage (8th/.398) and slugging percentage (8th/.450) ... Started all 59 games at third base adding three home runs, 26 RBI and six stolen bases (team co-leader) ... Recorded a team-best 27 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games ...
