GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior Seth Simmons was the sixth player from the 2011 East Carolina Pirates to hear his name called when the Arizona Diamondbacks chose him in the 40th round with pick No. 1204 Wednesday afternoon during the 2011 Major League Baseball First Year Amateur Draft.

Simmons joins Shawn Armstrong (Cleveland Indians), Seth Maness (St. Louis Cardinals), Brad Mincey (Florida Marlins), Mike Wright (Baltimore Orioles) and Zach Wright (Philadelphia Phillies) as other Pirates chosen in the draft.

Also selected in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft on Tuesday, June 7 were ECU commitments Cam Gallagher (Kansas City Royals), Deshorn Lake (Boston Red Sox), Rookie Davis (New York Yankees), Shawn Morimando (Cleveland Indians) , Jharel Cotton (New York Mets) and David Lucroy (Milwaukee Brewers).

Named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper-of-the-Year Watch List ... Appeared in 29 games (all out of the bullpen) where he posted a 6-2 record with six saves (team leader) ... Struck out 50, walked 23 and sported a 2.78 ERA in 35.2 innings ... Notched saves against No. 10 Virginia, Pepperdine, Monmouth, Rutgers, UCF and Tulane ... Became ECU's all-time saves leader on Mar. 19 against Rutgers after closing the final two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout ... Did not allow an earn run in 22 of 29 outings including his first 15 games of the season ... Fanned two or more batters 16 times ... Tied career-high with six punch outs against Campbell (Mar. 8) when he entered the game in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and struck out the side to get ECU out of a jam ... Did not issue a walk in 16 of 29 games ... Stuck out five against Houston (Apr. 21) after working three scoreless inning where he allowed one run in ECU's 5-4 win in 12 innings ...
