McDonald Selected In 12th Round By Houston Astros

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior first baseman Chase McDonald was selected in the 12th round by the Houston Astros Saturday afternoon during the third day of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Amateur Player Draft.
McDonald, who was a First-Team All-Conference selection this season, was taken with 347th overall pick and is the second Pirate selected in this year's draft behind Jack Reinheimer (fifth round by Seattle Mariners).
Also selected on the final day of the MLB Draft were ECU commitments Bryce Harman (Washington Nationals, Round 27, pick 826) and Luke Bolka (Cincinnati Reds, Round 34, Pick 1035). With the new CBA that was signed in 2011, underclassmen and high school seniors will have until 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday, July 12 to sign professional contracts with the respective clubs that selected them.
