BRADENTON, Fla. - Former East Carolina standout Kevin Brandt took part in the Florida State League All-Star game Saturday evening at McKechnie Field tossing a scoreless inning of relief for the South Division in a 6-4 loss to the North squad.

Brandt, a two-time All-Conference USA performer and Freshman All-America selection in 2009, entered the contest in the fifth frame replacing Reid Redman with the score deadlocked at two-all. The left-hander allowed an opening frame single to Dwight Smith, which was followed by a wild pitch moving Smith into scoring position. But Brandt settled in getting Gioskar Amaya to ground out to third, struck out Dalton Pompey and left Smith stranded at second when K.C. Hobson ground out to first to end the stanza.

An 18th round selection by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012, Brandt has been dominating out of the bullpen for the Charlotte Stone Crabs - Class A Advanced affiliate for the Rays - where he owns a 2-0 record with three saves and a 0.38 ERA. In 14 games he has stuck out 26 while walking seven, while holding opposing hitters to a .188 composite batting average.
