GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior Philip Clark hit a grand slam and junior Ben Fultz drove in three runs guiding Purple (2-0) to an 11-1 win over Gold (0-2) in eight innings Thursday afternoon in game two of the 2012 Purple-Gold World Series at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Clark and Fultz combined to drive in seven runs on five hits, while senior Jay Cannon (3), junior Drew Reynolds (2) and sophomore Nick Thompson (2) each collected multiple hits for Purple who outhit Gold 14-1 on the day.

Leading 1-0 in the fifth frame, Purple exploded for five runs highlighted by Clark's second round-tripper of the series to take a 6-0 advantage. Reynolds started the inning with a double down the left field line and moved over to third on Thompson's base knock to left. Fultz drove in Reynolds with another single to left for a 2-0 lead. With one out, freshman Travis Watkins loaded the bases with a walk and Clark cleared them with a poke over the right field wall.

Sophomore Jeff Hoffman (1-0) picked up the win for Purple after tossing two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts and one walk. Hoffman retired the side in order on six pitches in the first frame and threw just 11 pitches in the second before turning the game over to freshman Justin Taylor. The right-hander also tossed three scoreless frames allowing one run, but walked seven to go with his lone punch out. Freshman Nick Durazo kept the no-hitter in tack walking two and striking out three in two scoreless frames, while sophomore Dylan Dickens allowed Gold's only hit, which came in the eighth inning, off the bat of senior catcher Sam King.

Redshirt freshman David Lucroy (0-1) took the loss despite allowing one run on three hits in 3.1 frames. Sophomore DeShorn Lake served up Clark's homer and was touched for five runs (all earned) on four hits in one inning. Freshman Hayden White tossed a scoreless inning allowing a walk, while sophomore Tyler Bolton (1.2 IP, BB, K) and redshirt freshman Ryan Gupton (1.0 IP, BB) combined to allow five runs on seven hits in the final 2.2 stanzas.

Purple took an early 1-0 lead in the third frame on Thompson's RBI single through the left side that scored Cannon from third after he doubled with one out to get into scoring position.

In the bottom of the fifth, Gold finally got onto the board thanks to a bases loaded walk by junior Chase McDonald. Freshman Garrett Brooks reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and moved to third on junior Zach Houchins walk. After junior Dylan Brown loaded the bases with the third free pass of the frame, McDonald collected his third RBI of the series putting the score at 6-1.

Purple added three runs in the seventh thanks to a wild pitch that plated Cannon and RBI singles by Fultz and freshman Luke Lowery making it an eight run game, 9-1.

In the eighth, Cannon laced an RBI single that pushed across Clark and Fultz capped off his three-hit day with another RBI base know, scoring Cannon for an 11-1 win.

The Pirates will take a break from the diamond for Fall Break, but will return to action for game three of the series on Friday, Oct. 12 with a 3:15 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
