| ECU QUOTES
|ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo|
"I was stunned a little bit for us. I felt we were, for 34 minutes, not very good. We really didn't deserve to win the game; I don't know how we got back into it as quickly as we did and have a chance to win it in regulation, but defensively we were not very good tonight. They out-hustled us, they out-toughed us, they out played us and then we shoot it so poorly. I think at one point we were 1 of 23 from the 3. We shoot poorly from the foul line, 9 of 18 in the game. Over half our turnovers came from our seniors; it just was not a particularly good effort. Give them credit, they played well, they ran with pep in their step, they played tougher than us and they deserved to win the game."
On the team's shooting woes...
"When you miss shots it sucks the energy out of you and we had some good looks. I wasn't sure one was going to go until Akeem got going. You don't usually shoot them that bad, but we were trying to get it inside. They took that away, almost daring us to take some shots. I thought this would be our best shooting team, but we have not shot the ball well at all this year."
On Campbell's performance...
"They played well. [Darius]Leonard comes in makes jumpers at the five spot early, which gets them going; [Marvelle] Harris gets 16 for them tonight; Leek [Leek], who's a pretty good player, really played well. When you put [Darren] White, who's been hurt, on the court with those other guys, it opens up some things for them. They got some nice contributions from some other spots. We did a decent job on Freeman, but I wasn't expecting those other guys to get those kinds of points tonight and they did."
|Junior Guard Akeem Richmond|
On the Pirates' slow start...
"We got off to a really slow start. We are getting into a habit of doing that and really need to stop. At the end we fought hard and were resilient, but we just have to do it at the beginning of the game instead of trying to fight hard at the end of the game."
On the team's poor shooting performance...
"We were definitely struggling, but Coach Lebo told us to keep shooting because we have a lot of shooters: Miguel, Shamarr, Paris and myself. We continued to shoot the ball with confidence and finally got some to go."
|Senior Forward Maurice Kemp|
On the Pirates' overall performance
"We didn't come up with any stops. We were pretty soft down low and on the boards. I'm not trying to make any excuses, we just didn't come up with stops and we played soft.."
On reoccurring slow starts in games
"We have to be ready to play. We can't make excuses. We can't play from behind. We just can't do that in Division 1 basketball."
